Drupal

We’re back with our monthly overview of the top Drupal news and articles. Here are our top picks for September.

Introducing the Revolutionary Drupal CMS at DrupalCon Barcelona: A New Era in Drupal with AI-Enabled Website Building

This time around we need to start with a particularly exciting post from the Drupal Association about the first official demo of the upcoming Drupal CMS, showcased by Dries during his keynote speech at DrupalCon Europe in Barcelona.

As Dries states, the product strategy of Drupal CMS is to be the gold standard for no-code website building by empowering non-technical users to create great digital experiences without the need to rely on developers.

The official release date of the first version of Drupal CMS is January 15th 2025. The post also includes a link to the live stream of the Driesnote where you can get a better look at and/or revisit the demo.

Default Content in Drupal

Next up, this article from Jim Birch of Kanopi Studios dives into Default content in Drupal, first taking a look at its evolution from the Default Content contrib module to the DefaultContent API which was added to Core as part of the experimental Recipes APIs in Drupal 10.3.

After that, Jim shows how to use the Default Content module, as well as how to create a Drupal recipe with Default content. In the final section, he also explains what Default content isn’t made for – namely, it should not act as a replacement for content deployment solutions, but should mostly be used for demo sites and/or as a starting points for news sites.

Why we migrated our blog from Wordpress to Drupal

In the next article from September, Jeremiah Davis of Horizontal Digital breaks down why they chose to migrate their blog from WordPress to Drupal and what benefits it has brought them. One of the main reasons behind the decision was the difficulty in accessing the WordPress blog, resulting in fewer content contributions.

So, their chief goal with the new Drupal blog was to facilitate getting started and thus lowering the entry bar for content specialists to more easily share their expertise. This has empowered their marketing while preserving content governance, and on top of that they are also seeing an added bonus of improved performance on the new blog.

The Advantages of Multi-Domain Architecture with Drupal

The next article comes from Ricardo Luchsinger of Amazee Labs and highlights the benefits of multi-domain architecture with Drupal. This approach to architecture has become increasingly popular due to the growing complexity of managing several digital touchpoints which have themselves grown more important with the recent acceleration of digital transformation.

Multi-domain architecture on its own already brings a lot of advantages, such as cost efficiency, centralized administration, scalability and time savings. Using Drupal, you also benefit from its open source flexibility, its ease of sharing resources while maintaining individual control, and of course its robust community and the support it brings.

Improving headers in a Drupal site using Dries' HTTP Header Analyzer

Moving on, we have an article from Ricardo Sanz of Metadrop about optimizing headers on a Drupal website with the help of Dries’ HTTP Header Analyzer; this is a more technical follow up to Ricardo’s earlier article about the importance of security HTTP headers.

In brief, Dries’ tool analyzes Drupal-specific headers in addition to other headers of a website’s HTTP response. It provides a report of all headers found, along with explanations and notes, and gives a score based on the missing headers, warnings and notices detected.

The main section of Ricardo’s article is dedicated to breakdowns of different types of Drupal-specific headers, with the two main groups being cache headers and security headers.
